Many contractors now refuse to work on windmills that are unsafe. 

One contractor claims that 90 per cent of the windmills he sees would not meet safety standards; so he often has to fix the frame and platform before starting work on the windmill head itself.

​Can I purchase
​a cheaper product?
When you purchase a product from us you are paying for a product that has undergone extensive research and development, testing and field trialing in Australia, ensuring it performs in our harsh environment. Local support and an engineering team, off the shelf spare parts and warranty are also part of the package.  

These products are designed and tested to meet Australian Standards and design rules and are supplied with installation and operating instructions in English. Warranty that exceeds Australian Consumer Laws and above all the products are safe to install and operate.

When you purchase a cheap knock-off product you are getting a copy of a engineered and designed product, very often made from different materials, that has not undergone a research and development program to meet Australian conditions. ​
It won't have local product support, spare parts or warranty. It may not meet Australian Standards or design rules. It may not have installation or operating instructions in English. When the pump and installed equipment fails causing damage to the water bore or other infrastructure the money saved is insignificant.

"I take many calls when unsuitable equipment, fittings, electrical cable or pump rising main has failed causing the pump and equipment to become stuck in the bore. In many cases the pump and equipment is a total loss and a replacement water bore needs to be drilled. Cheap knock-off pumps, electrical cables and equipment can be very expensive in the long run."

Windmills have been part of the Australian landscape since the first windmills were imported from America around 1870. Early water bores were sunk to depths of up to 200 feet in the Great Artesian Basin, opening up vast new areas to grazing. A Brisbane company began manufacturing windmills in Australia soon after that, allowing the use of water bores and windmills to extend throughout Australia. Many windmills are still in use today, but are becoming more expensive and difficult to maintain due to changing regulations and requirements.

Solar Power has replaced many of the traditional windmills throughout Australia over the last decade. Solar powered water bore pumps have become more efficient, more reliable and more cost effective in this time. New solar installations can be incorporated into existing water bores and infrastructure.

Lorentz, Franklin Electric and Grundfos, world leaders in solar water bore technology, have used Australian conditions to design and test their products for the world markets. The solar industry has experienced rapid growth over the last 20 years, this technology has also been applied to the pumping industry, with great results for the end user.

Solar powered water bore pumps are now one of the only viable options for new water bores where main power supply is not available. This allows the water bore to be sited in a suitable location without the need to supply mains power. This type of installation can be completely independent of the mains power supply. In periods of low sunlight or increased demand for water a portable generator or back up power can be connected to pump system to maintain a 24-hour supply.

Australia is very suited to the use of Solar technologies and now ranks in the top ten countries in the world in regard to installed solar power capacity. Increased production volumes have dramatically reduced the cost of panels in to our Australian market. The technology required to take the solar power and convert it into pumped water has also come a long way in the last decade.

Solar powered water bore pumps​ are generally multi-stage centrifugal or helical rotor (progressive cavity) type pumps. Either type are direct coupled to a drive motor which will match the inverter or drive unit'

Transportation of Lorentz solar water bore pumps

​Solar powered water bore pump sets can be transported easily to their installation destination and installed easily using modern products and techniques. Crusader Flexibore is our preferred pump column for all of our pump kits and local installations. The Flexibore can be transported in a small package and is designed for use in bores up to 200 metres deep. It can be supplied with an installation roller to aid installations of pump at depths greater than 40 metres, where installation by hand is more difficult.

Correct Sizing and Matching

​Currently off the shelf Lorentz solar water pumping sets can deliver up to 450 Litres per minute (7,000 gallons per hour) and head pressures of up to 250 metres. Making solar powered water delivery very flexible and suited to a wide range of applications, including pumping from bore holes, creeks, dams, wells and rivers.

Correctly sizing the pump system and matching it with the solar array is very important. Incorrectly sized systems will not work at all or if they do it won’t be for long. Important points to consider include maximum water yield from the water source, depth to water and pumping water level, head required to deliver water to the desired use, water quality, maximum diameter of the pump, volume of water required, storage capacity of pumped water, available sunlight and cost.
